PAWNEE CITY HISTORICAL SOCIETY - Located on the east edge of Pawnee City on Highway 50/8, the museum features 22 buildings with over 25,000 items to view. From Larry the Cable Guy's (Dan Whitney) family barn to U.S. Senator Kenneth Wherry's library, there is something of interest for the whole family. Kids will find dress-up clothes in the log cabin or can do a scavenger hunt as the family tours the museum buildings. Exhibits not to be missed include a home-built experimental Tailwind airplane, five one-room country schools, the home of the first governor of the State of Nebraska, and unique collections of over 800 types of barbed wire and 1600 sets of salt and pepper shakers. On the last weekend of September, the museum hosts Historical Days, featuring Civil War Re-enactments, in alternate years, and other special events.
