History:

The first Library Association began in 1904 with $600.00 in their account and with the help of Andrew Carnegie, the new library was built and furnished by April 3, 1908. Pawnee City's Public Library now contains 13,105 volumes and has an annual circulation of 13,433. The library offers videocassettes, tax forms, book loans, and a computer. A weekly story time is offered for preschoolers. The library, run by Mrs. Mary Friedly since 1987, not only serves Pawnee City but the surrounding county and nearby towns as well.

The library foundation is a federally tax exempt organization under section 501[C]-3.
