Situated just 85 miles south of Omaha and 65 miles southeast of Lincoln, the charming and historic Village of Steinauer prides itself on being "The Friendliest Little Town". The elegantly refurbished two-story brick convent features hardwood floors, a gracious staircase and a lovely community garden room outlined with ornate windows and a lovely private patio. Masterfully blended into the Old World atmosphere of the convent are twentieth century luxuries such as three elegant bathrooms and handicapped facilities.
The Convent House features five guest rooms each donated by families who are past or present members of St. Anthony's Church. Each room is decorated with period furnishings and family mementos. The lower level features a full private bath and large window. Other areas of the Convent House have been renovated with the help of generous donations; each room reflects the personality of a different family. In addition to the lovely convent and church buildings belonging to St. Anthony's parish, the village boasts several other historic structures including the Steinauer Opera House, recently named to the National Register of Historic Places, which is located above the Bank of Steinauer at 215 Main Street. The village park features a lighted basketball/tennis court, playground and band shell.
Excellent fishing, hunting and wildlife viewing opportunities abound in the immediate area. Burchard Lake State Wildlife Management Area, renowned for its superb fishing, also offers blinds for the wildlife enthusiast to view the "booming" of prairie chickens in spring. Several other wildlife management areas in Pawnee County are available for hunting. Two public golf courses are within an easy drive.
